Mochica
Food
Studies
of the Moche diet done by archaeologists -and other researchers
of related sciences- analyzing organic materials (remains of
cooked bones, seeds, etc.), which are recovered from the city
located between the Huaca del Sol and the Huaca de la Luna are
important to learn about the feeding habits of the Moche.
To find very small organic materials , archaeologists
sift the clearing extracted from the excavations, once and again,
using sieves with different sized orifices. Seeds, bones and other
food remains that are kept on the sieve surface are classified
to be analyzed later in laboratories, and gather information about
its species, age, density, etc.
According
to researchers, the most powerful people were able to get a wider
variety of food, clothing made with materials from further regions,
etc.
Considering that eating patterns reveal the capacity of the people
to obtain certain resources, it can be concluded that the studies
of the Moche diet also help identify which were the social groups
that lived in the city located between both huacas or temples.
